​The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaii recently honored Debbie Ching-Maiava of Hilo as the recipient of its 2016 Book of Golden Deeds Award during a luncheon at the Hilo Yacht Club.

​The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaii recently honored Debbie Ching-Maiava of Hilo as the recipient of its 2016 Book of Golden Deeds Award during a luncheon at the Hilo Yacht Club.

Aloha Exchange Club members, family, friends, business associates and representatives of several nonprofit organizations in which she has been actively involved were in attendance for the presentation.

​The Book of Golden Deeds Award is the National Exchange Club’s longest-running project which acknowledges the importance of volunteer efforts in society.

Ching-Maiava was recognized for, among many other things, her service on the University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center Advisory Committee; food chairwoman for the capital campaign to build the Hospice of Hilo facility on Waianuenue Avenue; board member of Kanoelehua Industrial Area Association; Crime Stoppers; her leadership in promoting the Going Home project; and her time, energy and financial support in establishing the Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank.

​Ching-Maiava was presented with a Book of Golden Deeds plaque with the inscription, “For all you do to make Hilo, Hawaii, a better place to live. You give of your time, your energy, your talent and donated funds to countless nonprofit organizations that help those in need. You are always there when asked.”
